Speaking of the ‘Year of the Exterior’, after another one of my famous bouts of obsessive Googling, I found that the house on Penny Lane is actually a recognized architectural style.
What is unfortunately uncool is the style’s name. Did you ever play MASH in school? By process of elimination, a random number allowed you to look far into the future at the type of home you would live in: a Mansion, an Apartment, a Shed or a House. Well, people – it looks like I live in a Shed.
Typical characteristics of Shed style homes include:
- Built in the 1960s and 1970s
- Shed roof with little to no overhang
- Clerestory windows
- Natural stone or brick interior features
- Flush board siding
- 1-1 1/2 stories
- Recessed entrances
- Long, narrow windows
